Vegetable stories familiarise children with names and appearance

Enjoying a story together, participating in the magic of growing, and cooking a tasty meal develop healthy life skills.

In 2009 we launched a new range of books for children that aim to teach kids the importance of eating healthily by showing them how to grow and cook their own fruit and vegetables. Truly eco-friendly children’s gifts, each activity book is printed in the UK on recycled paper with vegetable oil based inks and contains a fully illustrated story book, a packet of organic seeds, growing instructions and an easy to follow recipe.

At the Secret Seed Society we believe that making healthy activities more fun for children, is often a much more successful way of getting them to eat healthily. Our activity packs take children on a journey from plant to plate, encouraging them to get their hands dirty in the garden and the kitchen.

Priced at just £4.99 each, we think these books are an excellent alternative to an Easter egg this April and packs can be purchased easily through the Secret Seed Society shop on our website.

The Secret Seed Society experience doesn’t have to stop with the books, we also have a Seed Agents Club. Just log on to ‘Join the Seed Agents’, and the kids can get  involved in activities, enter our competitions and submit their own illustrations.

With spring on the way and Easter barely behind us, there are now even more reasons to join the Secret Seed Society in its quest for healthy, happy kids. But after a long winter, it can be difficult to come up with fun, nourishing activities for when the sun does finally put his hat on. In the end, we didn’t pick a winning story, we picked a winning author. Congratulations to Emily Capstick. She is an experienced storyteller and has helped us turn her original onion story into a wonderful tale of a curious and clever carrot. The story is now in development and we hope to be able to start sending them out in late April!

Of course we’ll be having more competitions. Next up we’ll be looking for a Secret Seed Society jingle! We’ll be running it a bit differently with you posting your entries up on the web for a public vote, this is a society after all. I’ve always fancied myself as a contestant on Veg Factor…
